Friends Who Flip Together...

This week was filled with trampolining galore, and I can't wait to tell you all about it! It won't be as long as my usual posts, but still just as exciting :) As I mentioned in my last post, I had a pretty intense school work week this past week. I have one more major assignment due on Tuesday, but then I'll be okay for a little while. The work I get definitely comes in waves. I either have no homework or a lot all at the same time, but it's all good. On Tuesday, I went to see Psycho with the FilmSoc. I love scary movies, and since it's getting close to Halloween time, it was nice to be able to feel in the spirit of the season. I'd never seen Psycho before, but it was definitely not what I expected. The fact that it was in black and white definitely added to the spookiness, and the volume changes from normal scene to intense scene was what made me jump more than the actual events. Bernard Hermann was definitely very talented at writing the score for the movi...

When in Rome (or just Italy in general)

Image
I am exhausted but still exhilarated from my trip to Italy this weekend! This picture was taken atop the Spanish steps in the city centre of Rome. When in Rome was certainly the theme of our trip, even though we spent half of our time in Venice. Me and a few friends definitely tried to live it up as much as we possibly could during our (too) short time there, and we ended up having an absolutely wonderful time! The people, the food (the desserts!!!), the language, the history, the architecture, the everything... it was all just so amazing and incredible! I will definitely try to get back to Italy at some point in the future. But more on Italy later in the blog post :) My week started out a little crazy, as we did not have classes on Monday due to Hurricane Ophelia! Our classes were cancelled late Sunday night, and it was really nice to have the day off! However, the Dublin area really didn't get hit too hard by Ophelia, so we mostly got a little extra wind. It barely ...

Vlaamse Fries, Stroopwafel, and Tulips

Image
You might have thought my title was going to be all Dutch food, until you saw tulips. Well, technically it's all been eaten in the Netherlands before! During my visit in Amsterdam this weekend, I learned that tulips were eaten during the "Hongerwinter," essentially the Dutch famine. This happened after the south of the country was liberated by the Allies in World War II, while the north of the country was still occupied by the Nazis. They effectively cut off the food supply of the north of the country and many were forced to eat the tulip, their national flower, in order to sustain themselves during the long, cold, and hard winter of 1944-1945. More Dutch history/information to follow! This week was pretty good! Monday is Pilates, which I absolutely love, and then Tuesday and Thursday are trampoline practices :) I've found it pretty easy to stay active, even going on a few runs while here! Again, the weather has been pretty cooperative/nice so far! Ireland ...
